Beauty Before Darkness
02:50
|
|||
It happened pretty quickly, over a matter of days
Then they were running upstairs through warm pink rays
He looked up through the skylight as she took off her dress
And told, "Love is like a sunset - it's beauty before darkness"
She moved quickly when he touched her, walked to the kitchenette
And started making coffee while he talked about regrets
She said, "It's no use to fight it, now don't get so distressed.
I told you love is like a sunset. It's beauty before darkness.
And it's always been that way, that's how it's going to stay
There's nothing you can say to stop love fading away".
Now he's made a little money, he's got a place up on the hill
He goes up to the attic where the world is quiet and still
He looks across the city to that red glow in the west
Love is like a sunset, it's beauty before darkness
I told you love is like a sunset, it's beauty before darkness

Like The Tide
03:22
|
|||
Summer night in a seaside town, we slip away, away from the noise of
the crowd
Past the boats, cables janglin' in the wind.
Car out on Highway One a distant sigh
My senses are heightened I feel ten times as alive
The world sparkles like freshly poured champagne
Sea licks at the aching sand
We're moving closer with every single step 'til we merge
The moon up overhead, naked before the sky
I'm moving into you, like the tide
You're the ocean's daughter I'm a son of the sea
We slip from the turbulence that passes for everyday
On the border of sea and land we sign a treaty in flesh and blood
And now, the moon up overhead, naked before the sky
I'm moving into you, like the tide

Cherry Blossom
05:08
|

Bill Evans reaching for the sound of getting up and coming down
Death and resurrection
And as his fingers touch the keys somehow he's reaching in to me
And makes the sweetest of connections
And as the sun comes up again, and as the needle soothes the pain
The notes pour out and there remain like cherry blossom in the rain
The painter crouching in the dark, by firelight he makes his mark
Reaching for connection
I step from heat into cool cave. Ten thousand years in his grave he
Waves his resurrection
And as the sun comes up again, and might herd replaced by grain
The tribe moves on but still remains like cherry blossom in the rain
How deep and dark a place must I crawl down into to face
My loss and separation
Reaching out awkward and scared in case I find there's no one there
When I try to make connection
And as the sun comes up again with nothing left to soothe the pain
The tears pour down and there remain like cherry blossom in the rain

The River
05:01

We spend a lot of time together you and me
I'm thinking 'bout where we've come from and where we are going to be
Sometimes I listen to you and I think I understand
But overall have to admit you are impervious to my demands
I think about the bottom, what is lying in the mud
I can think all day it doesn't do me any good
Which way are the fish swimming? I cannot catch a single one
I see them flashing for a moment in the sunlight, then they're gone
I never know your name, I never see your face
Still I always find myself drawn back to this place
Stood on the embankment or looking off the bridge
Scared and fascinated and drawn to the edge

She Has Gone
04:27
|
|||
She has gone, she has departed on another silent voyage
Cast off her lines, left this world behind. I must leave her sleeping
I want to kiss her cheek and underneath the sheets
My hands seek curves as smooth as shell
But I must leave her be inside the mystery
And hope the currents treat her well, that gentle breath speaks gentle swell
She has gone, she has departed on another silent voyage
Cast off her lines, left this world behind. I must leave her sleeping
And when she sails away at the end of the day I'm praying for her safe
return
With treasures from the deep and new songs soaring sweet
'Bout how she saw my lantern burn
And trades her tunes my own to learn
And when she doesn't come to harbour with the sun
I'll raise my anchor, set my sail, and head on out to sea
If she can't be with me then I'll be with her and the whales
I'll be standing watching from the rail
She has gone

When?
05:54
|
|||
You and me we've been kicking around
Dreaming of leaving this one horse town
Watching and waiting for a better thing for us to do
The days go past and the dreams they fade
And all our plans get re-arranged
And none of those dreams feel like they're ever going to come true
I said, "When? When? If it can't happen now, it won't happen then.
Then? Then? If it can't happen now it won't happen then"
Every morning when we wake there's a new set of vows we take
We're not lying but the sunset says that's so
There's a path into the setting sun waiting there for everyone
If you don't run for her, she'll surely run for you
I said, "When? When? If it can't happen now, it won't happen then.
Then? Then? If it can't happen now it won't happen then"
The priest has left with the collecting plate
All his promises are out of date
You'll be waiting a long time for some saviour to return
You're stood at the bus stop in the midday sun
Stood at the bus stop but the bus don't run
You'd better pick your feet up and head on down that road
I said, "When? When? If it can't happen now, it won't happen then.
Then? Then? If it can't happen now it won't happen then"

Almost Home
04:44
|
|||
It's darkening for sure, it's hard to tell if that ahead is cloud or land
As this old steam ship struggles on with all the speed it's engines can
command
If you guys labouring below can keep on shovelling the coal
That keeps the fire burning in the soul
See us safe to harbour, never more to roam
We're almost home
Salt water turned to steam over the furnaces that burn on in the dark
The faces and the forearms of the firemen brief lit by flame and spark
If you guys labouring below can keep on shovelling the coal
That keeps the fire burning in the soul
See us safe to harbour, never more to roam
We're almost home
Well you can holystone the decks and say your prayers over the wrecks
And cast your wreaths upon the rolling waves
Just lay your fingers on the rail and you will find there without fail
Vibrations from the engine room
They're going to get you home safe soon
So lay under the sky and watch the stars as they go spinning through
the night
The guys are working down below and in the end it all will be alright
If you guys labouring below can keep on shovelling the coal
That keeps the fire burning in the soul
See us safe to harbour, never more to roam
We're almost home
We're almost home
